About us

Who we are

The Folk Dance and Song Group was formed as one of the special interest sections of the Camping and Caravanning Club nearly 60 years ago. Since then we have grown into a number of regional areas, each area organising meets for their "local" area. Home Counties is the largest of these areas covering counties between Oxfordshire and Northants to Norfolk to Essex.

Our weekend meets typically run from Friday to Sunday but we also run longer meets over bank holidays and school holidays. We always have a hall or barn on Saturday nights for a ceilidh or barn dance with a live band. Musicians and dancers or all abilities are welcome, even if you are an absolute beginner.

The emphasis for our meets is to have fun! As long as you are willing to join in and have a good laugh, you are guaranteed to have a great time.

Activities include:

  • Folk dancing

  • Singing

  • Playing folk music

  • Walking

  • Morris dancing

  • Chilling on the field.

Joining a camping community in the UK, such as the Folk Dance and Song Group (FDSG), offers a plethora of benefits for outdoor enthusiasts. Our community provides a platform to connect with like-minded individuals who share a passion for exploring the great outdoors and creating lasting memories. Members can enjoy organized meets throughout the year, where they can socialize, exchange camping tips, and build friendships that extend beyond the campfire.

Being part of a camping community also opens doors to new camping locations, insider knowledge on the best spots to visit, and a sense of belonging to a supportive and welcoming group. Whether you are a seasoned camper or a beginner looking to embark on new adventures, joining a camping community in the UK enriches the overall camping experience and creates a sense of camaraderie that makes every trip more enjoyable.
